iPhone shmiPhone
I had my trusty Palm Treo 650 for a few years, and abused it terribly. It kept coming apart, and the rumble stopped working (and I couldn’t get the ringer on, because it crashed it.) So after A Bank Error In My Favor, I used some of that money to buy a refurbished 650 for $150 to replace the old one.
I feel a mite ripped off- there are parts of the phone that don’t work. Keyboard buttons cut out randomly, and it still has some crashing problems (which I’m sure is an issue with my software conflicts, not the phone itself.) There’s weird flickering issues too.
I just received an email about THIS beauty. Since it’s running the new PalmOS, I can keep all my addresses, contacts, memos, etc. (I’ve had this data continuously since my sophomore year of college.) It’s $400, since my service plan isn’t contractual, but it looks pretty sweet. Sounds like they’ve upgraded everything I want.
It’s no iPhone, but it does have a few bonuses that the iPhone doesn’t have- like being able to run my NES emulator and keeping all my data. And I can add applications, like the Palm version of Acquire I play 3-5 times per day.
Now to decide what I’m going to do about this $150 piece of junk I ordered…

I’ve rarely had good experiences with Refurbished stuff in the past, personally. But your mileage may vary of course. I roll with a Sony-Ericsson 810. I got a 4GB memory card loaded with music (that i bluetooth into the car with). I can take fairly nice pictures with it at 2mp. and it is almost 2 years old. It also may not be an iPhone… but i would never use half the feature on it either. =p
I’ve generally been ok with refurbished products BUT in this case, when I ordered it from Ebay, I wasn’t aware it was refurbished. I only bought another 650 because, like you, I had it for about 2 years and was very happy with it.
And, of course, company I bought it from says they only refund within a week. It does come with some kind of warranty, which means being without a phone and organizer for who knows how long. Looks like I’m stuck.
Alas… and of course, it always happens after that week that the thing would totally go south on you.
I’m continuously amazed at how happy I am with my iPhone. There have been a few things that fell short, or could be improved, but really it’s beyond my expectations. Just don’t get raped by Verizon when you switch over…
